Dorothy R. Datz

Dorothy Rosemary Huber Datz, 89 passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on Friday, April 29, 2022. Dorothy was born in Jersey City where she worked and resided with her family before moving to Hazlet, NJ in 1997. She worked for Shamrock Bus Company in Keansburg as an aide until the age of 88. She enjoyed her job but loved all the children she took care of and helped and brought joy to her life every day for over 20 years. She was known by many names, Mom, Grandma, GiGi, Dottie D., Mama Datz, Mama Smurf, Mrs. Datz, and the infamous “Red.” She was called the unofficial mayor of Keansburg because everyone knew her. If not by name but by the color of her hair. She was also known as the GiGi of Manning Place to all the kids who resided there over the past 15 years. She enjoyed music and attended many concerts with her daughters and granddaughter from Herman’s Hermits, Bruce Springsteen, Rod Stewart, Journey, The Eagles, Bob Segar, Cyndi Lauper, TransSiberian Orchestra, Smokey Robinson, Luke Bryan, Tim McGraw, Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, The Dixie Chicks and her last one before Covid hit was Frankie Vali (who kissed her cheek). She was also an avid reader and enjoyed going to the movies. Her attention to the way she dressed was apparent as everything matched, was always ironed and always looked her best everywhere she went, and she never missed her weekly hair appointment even up to the Friday before she passed. And no one can forget that her lipstick matched the color of her bright red hair. She will be remembered for her smile, laugh, jokes, conversations, a wave to everyone she passed, her 5:00 a.m. walk to Main Street for her coffee and newspapers but most of all for her generosity to everyone. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Edward. Her father, Peter Martin Huber and her mother, Clara Kanaske (nee Kickey). Her brother, Warren Huber and sisters, Caroline Huber, Roseann Stebner, Bernice (Bunny) Mailley and Janet Delaney. Her brother-in-laws, Arthur and Richard Datz and her son-in-laws, Arthur Malewich, Dale Whitehead and Charles DiBiasi. She is survived by her daughters, Claire Marie Malewich, Patricia Whitehead and Maureen DiBiasi. Her grandchildren, Edward, Bryan and Onika, Keith and Jordan and Sean Malewich. Alberto and James Caban. Ashley (nee DiBiasi) and her husband, Thomas Kane and Jessica DiBiasi. Her great-grandchildren, Harmony and Charlie Malewich, A.J. and Jace Malewich, Thomas, Hayley Marie, Wyatt Charles Kane and Milania Williams. She is also survived by her in-laws, Carolyn Harding, Mary Musella, John Datz, Bernice Bonilla, Bernadette Zacharda, Raymond Datz and Margaret Datz. Also survived by a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and a tremendous circle of friends. As per her wishes, Cremation will be private. A CELEBRATION OF HER LIFE will be held on June 11, 2022, at The VFW Post 2179, 1 Veterans Lane, Port Monmouth, NJ 07758 from 6:00 to 10:00 P.M. All are welcome to attend and encouraged to share their stories of Dottie with everyone. Her final wish was for a cure to be found for Parkinson’s Disease.
