Margaret E. Goodwin

Margaret Elizabeth (Watrous) Goodwin, age 65, of Keansburg, NJ, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2021, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ, with her family by her side. She was born in New Brunswick and lived in the Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen, NJ, for 25 years before moving to Keansburg in 2005. Margaret worked for Pathmark Stores for ten years before becoming a full-time homemaker. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, she enjoyed crafting and doll collecting. Margaret was also a talented artist who expressed herself through pencil drawings and nail art. She loved country and rock music, especially Fleetwood Mac. Her favorite activity was spending time with her family revisiting memories of the past, as well as making new ones. She loved boxer dogs and adopted six of them over the years. Margaret was a brilliant and intuitive woman. She extensively researched her family genealogy. As a feminist, she encouraged civic engagement and political participation among the women of her family. No one could ignore Margaret’s presence in a room because her laughter was contagious. Her family will greatly miss her sparkling outfits and beautiful artwork. Margaret is survived by her two sons, Craig Goodwin-Ortiz de Leon and his husband, Arturo, of Queens, NY, and David A. Goodwin of Keansburg; her stepdaughter, Dennise Romano (the Thelma to her Louise!) and her husband Anthony of Robbinsville, NJ; two grandchildren, Anthony Jr. and Katie; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, George W. and Ida M. Watrous; her husband of 36 years, Craig D. Goodwin, Sr.; her brothers, George W. Watrous, Robert A. Beran, and Theodore L. Watrous; her sister, Alberta Bryson, and her recent companion, Henry McCawley. Visitation will be held at Laurel Funeral Home, 201 Laurel Ave., Hazlet, NJ, from 5 pm – 8 pm on Monday, October 18, and a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 19, at 10 am at the funeral home with interment to immediately follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ. The family asks that, due to cemetery restrictions, instead of flowers, please donate to New Jersey Boxer Rescue (https://njboxerrescue.com/) in Margaret’s memory. Additionally, the family requests that all those who attend the visitation and services wear masks at all times, whether vaccinated or not.
