Robert F Coughlan

Robert Coughlan, (Bob), 91, of Hazlet, NJ, passed away on February 7, 2024, at Bayshore Medical Center, Holmdel, NJ. He was born on July 7, 1932, in Jersey City, NJ. Bob was a selfless and family-oriented man with a sparkle in his eye. He was known for his friendly nature and calm demeanor to handle all situations that life had to offer. He cherished spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his daughters, Diane Shimansky and Nancy Jost, and son, Bill Jost (wife Cindy); sister, Helen Lynch; grandchildren (who affectionately referred to him as "Pa"); John Shimansky (wife Roseanna), Brian Shimansky (wife Brittany), Scott Shimansky (wife Jenna), and Maria Trumble (husband Rick). He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Lilianna and Gianna Shimansky and Siena Shimansky. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his parents, John Coughlan and Margaret Cashman Coughlan: his wife, Doris Lynch Jost Coughlan, his twin brother, William (wife Doris) and Brothers, Michael and Jack Coughlan (wife Doris), brothers-in-law, Robert Lynch (wife Claire), Arthur Lynch and nephew, Michael Lynch. Upon graduation from high school, he proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1952-1956 when he was honorably discharged. Upon discharge, Bob went to work at Dean Witter Reynolds in New York City, as a Finance Manager. He was working with Dean Witter (which had relocated to the Twin Towers) at the time of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. After thirty plus years of being a devoted employee, he retired in 1996. Bob was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and he was an usher and member of the cleaning committee at St. Ann's Church in Keansburg. He was also an active member of St. Ann's Holy Name Society. Bob and Doris were members of the Cullen Senior Club, where he assumed the role of Treasurer and they enjoyed many trips and activities. Bob and Doris loved bowling together and were members of a local bowling team. During the summer, Bob and Doris found joy attending concerts in Sandy Hook. Bob also loved visiting Bill and Cindy in the Adirondacks, and captaining their pontoon boat, while proudly sporting his "Captain Coughlan" hat. Bob was an avid New York Mets and New York Giants fan.
