Sophie Sadowski

Sophie Sadowski (nee Cechony) 93, of Keansburg, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, September 17, 2013, after a short illness. She was born on June 16, 1920 to the late Mary and Martin Cechony. Born and raised in New York City where she spent most of her adult life she and her husband John raised their three sons. She worked for the NYC County Clerk’s office in Manhattan, and moved to Monmouth County in 1995 several years after retiring. She was predeceased by her husband John (1992) and son Robert (2006) and by her her two sisters Josephine Zeyer and Mary Fogas and by her Brother Walter Cechony. She is survived by her devoted son Jack and his wife Lorraine of Allendale NJ, her loving daughter-in-law Wendy Lee Sadowski of Atlantic Highlands, and her beloved son Don and his wife Meg, of Holmdel, NJ, and by many nieces and nephews. Other jewels in her crown are her loving grandchildren, MaryAnn Callaghan, and her husband Matthew of Annapolis MD, Karolyn Sadowski Esq, of Zurich, Switzerland, John M. Sadowski and his wife Lisa of Maywood NJ, Kathleen Fearnside and her husband Jeff of Middletown, NJ, Dr. Brett Sadowski, of Bethesda MD and Jill Sadowski, Holmdel. NJ. Affectionately nicknamed “GiGi” by her great-grandchildren, Jack, Abigail and Brennan Callaghan, Elodie Ann Sadowski and Ryan Robert Fearnside. As a proud child of the Great Depression, she delighted in being frugal and saving money for a rainy day. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, crocheting, word jumbles, sitting in the sun and feisty games of Bingo ! Beyond her hobbies, and her generosity to her family, loving and being there for her family was what she was all about. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Relatives and friends are invited for visitation on Thursday, September 19, 2013 from 4-8PM, at the Laurel Funeral Home, 201 Laurel Avenue, West Keansburg NJ 07734. A Funeral gathering will be held on Friday September 20, 2013 at 9:00am at the Funeral Home with a 10:00am Service at Middletown United Methodist Church, 924 Middletown-Lincroft Rd. followed by an Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Flushing, NY.
