William Paul Slover, age 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Known as Bill, he was born on December 28, 1928 in a house on Carr Ave, Keansburg across from Saint Ann’s Church. Raised on his grandfather’s farm in Union Beach he attended Saint Ann’s Grammar School and Keyport High School. He met the love of his life Helen Kovacs when they were high school and married on September 9, 1950. Together they had two daughters. Bill belonged to Local 464A United Food and Commercial Workers Union where he also was on the executive board. He was butcher with Safeway, Finast and Foodtown where he was meat manager. He was a proud member of New Point Comfort Fire Company, No. 1 where he made lifelong friendships. He attained the rank of Chief in 1977 and was a member of the Ex-Chief’s Association of the Keansburg Fire Department and New Jersey Fireman’s Relief Association. He was a life member of the Royal Order of the Moose, Sellersville, Pa Lodge 1539. He honorably served his country as a member of the New Jersey National Guard and in the Army Reserve for 10 Years with the 644th Tank Battalion. Bill was an avid Jets fan and was hoping to live long enough for the team to win another Super Bowl. His most cherished times was with family, especially his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife of sixty-six years, Helen; His mother and father, Cecil and Lillian Slover; brother Cecil. Bill is survived by daughters Karen D’Amore and her spouse Tony and Linda Emerick and her spouse Bruce. Grandchildren, Anthony D’Amore (Elizabeth); Joshua D’Amore (Nerrisa); Pamela Kovacs (Robert); Danielle Emrick. Great-grandchildren Lauren D’Amore; Noah D’Amore; Carter Kovacs; Emilia D’Amore.
